Should you make conversation during a massage?
What if you feel self-conscious about your body?
Being self-conscious should not prevent you from seeking health care, be it from a doctor or a massage therapist. A professional therapist will be non-judgmental and focused on the soft tissue. Therapists should see with their hands not with their eyes.
How much clothing should you remove?
Typically, a therapist will say ‘please undress to your level of comfort.’ That may be to your underwear, your bra, or nothing on at all. The therapist will securely undrape only the part of the body that is being massaged. Keep in mind that for better results from your massage allowing the therapist as much access to that area will be more beneficial.
How often should you get a massage?
As often as you like. Whether you sit at a desk, are an athlete, or work at a construction site, every BODY has stress of some kind. Listen to your body and decide when it is best for you to receive bodywork. Your body needs to function well and massage therapy is one way to maintain a healthy you. Massage therapy helps emotionally, physically and mentally. The massage therapist can make recommendations about how often, but there is no rule about the number of massages you should be getting.
What if the pressure is not deep enough?
Communicate openly with your therapist. Massage therapy should not hurt to be effective. Often too much pressure will have the opposite effect and make the muscles tense up. Work with the therapist to ensure you are getting the level of pressure you desire, but keep in mind that you could be in more pain after receiving a really deep tissue treatment.
